The Sängerchor rehearses Friday evenings at the Deutscher Club in Clark, New Jersey. Rehearsals begin promptly at 8:00 PM and last about 1-1/2 hours. The chorus practices old and new songs for upcoming events. Shortly the chorus will begin rehearsing for Songfest 2008. Our song library, containing over 500 songs, ranges from simple folksongs and Heimat Lieder (songs from immigrant's native country) to the works of major German and Austrian composers of famous operas and operettas. After rehearsal there is a short business meeting and socializing. Once a month, a birthday party follows rehearsal, to honor the celebrants of the month.
The Sängerchor is open to any person that enjoys music in particular four-part harmony male choral singing. Interested persons are invited to attend a few trial rehearsals to see if this type of activity is enjoyable for them. Please do not hesitate - even if you do not read music or speak the German language. Our professional music director, Manfred Knoop, has the knowledge, skills and techniques to guide newcomers in this fine art of male choral singing. Most of our members are not musicians and do not read music. Manfred, who has been with us for over 29 years, makes the learning process an interesting and enjoyable experience for all participants.

The Friends of the Sängerchor is a support organization of interested people, who enjoy choral music but cannot become active singers themselves. For only $15.00 annual membership contribution each Friend of the Sängerchor will receive a complimentary (transferable) admission ticket to our annual concert, be informed periodically on developments and news about the chorus and receive a pocket card listing club officers and the club's musical calendar and social events for the year. In addition all Friends of the Sängerchor enjoy the satisfaction of belonging to such a fine group of singers, who uphold their German tradition in such a joyful and pleasant way. Your annual membership dollars help us bridge the difference between the actual expenses of our programs and our ticket revenues. We are an exempt non-profit organization and thus a portion of your donation may be tax exempt. Please consult a financial advisor regarding this issue.
