The
Sänger-Chor men's chorus was founded in October 1925 by
a group of ten men motivated to preserve the old tradition of
song and music they enjoyed so much in the "Old Country".
Their efforts led to immediate success and by 1950 the chorus
had over 100 active members on stage.
Over
its years of existence the chorus achieved acclaim and wide
recognition both in concert performances and prize singing.
The chorus' repertoire consists of German and American folk
songs, traditional and light classics, a sprinkling of
barbershop style and Sacred Songs and Spirituals. Although the chorus started out initially
with immigrant members, today's membership is a mix of immigrants
and native born members. The chorus consists of residents mainly
from Union County and surrounding communities with some members
coming from distant places such as Ocean and Warren counties.
The
chorus rehearses every Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. at the Deutscher
Club of Clark. New members are welcome. See the Join Us section
for more details.
